I tried this recipe from Runner’s World magazine today and it was awesome, so I thought I’d share!
Today, I have two lessons.
Lesson 1, Dressing For Your Body
This is the result of NOT dressing for your body. This is trying to squeeze into clothing that does not fit you. This is trying to squeeze into clothing that is not designed for your body type. I friggen shoved my hips into a size 0. Like it was a struggle. I can fit in a size 0, but do you see how unflattering that is? Muffin-top status, darling. My hips were NOT made for a size zero, either. These hips are wide-set. If I wasn’t as confident and self aware as I am and was like “Ohh I hope I fit!!!” and saw this? I would probably be crushed, think I was fat, and have my entire day ruined. If you can fit comfortably into a size 0, then hey! that’s great, you’re not forcing your body into something that doesn’t fit. Can’t fit into a size 0? Then go up until you find your size! Can’t fit into a size 5? Again, find your proper size! Dressing in the proper clothing size will flatter your body so much more than trying to squeeze into something too small or opting for something too big. Also, take note: The size 5’s didn’t fit me either. I’m usually a size 5, or 3/4, and absolutely nothing fit me. At all. At that point I gave up ‘cause by size 5 the leg part was getting too baggy. Not all brands are made the same! Search until you find something that fits your body properly, who the heck cares what size it is? If you rock a size 4, then rock that size 4. If you rock a size 10, then rock that size 10. Don’t force yourself into something smaller, and don’t hide behind something larger! Neither have positive effects on your self-esteem!
Lesson 2….
Okay, I fit into a size 0. Now what? Where are all the boys who are supposed to be lusting after me? Or all the jealous girls? I mean, obviously my body can fit into a size 0 (very uncomfortably, but it can) so where’s this friggen pixie dust magic crap that’s supposed to make my life amazing? When I put those shorts on, why didn’t I feel like some sex kitten or like I was on top of the world? Where’s all this confidence and happiness and magic that’s supposed to come with being a size 0? Absolutely nothing changed between the time I put those shorts on and then took them off. Nobody cares. I don’t care. The girl shopping in the same section as me? she didn’t friggen care. The guys walking around the store? Didn’t friggen care. So tell me, what’s being a size 0 supposed to do for me?
Please note, I’m not bashing anybody who actually is a size 0. I’m just making a point that it’s not realistic for everybody to be that naturally slim, or for their bodies to be that size. Some people, sure! Their bodies can comfortably go down to a size 0. Is it realistic for EVERYBODY? Heck no! Get to know your body. Ignore what the size says. All you need that size number for is to know what size to get next time you need a new pair of pants. It is absolutely worthless otherwise.
This post is amazing.. couldn’t have said it better :)
